Life is all about priorities. When I tell others I eat predominantly organic and eat grass fed meats, they respond with “that is so expensive.” It depends on how you see it. I don’t go to see a doctor or get nearly as sick as I did when I wasn’t eating organically, but I’m gluten free & eat only natural or low glycemic sugars as well. I don’t eat out very much (it has become a rarity for me) due to eating organically and being mindful of what I eat due to allergies & sensitivities. If it makes me feel better, then that’s good for me.
I eat right, exercise, and take care of myself to the best of my ability; always willing to learn & help myself do better. I rather know what I’m eating and feel safe with what I’m eating than to take the risk of getting sick. I use to get migraines at least twice a month. When I cut out gluten in 2014, my migraines & headaches in general were slashed 80%. I use to get upper respiratory infections at least twice a year. In the last four years since I have changed the way I eat, I have had a cold one time. Yes, you read that correctly! There is something to eating the right foods and clean foods for our body.
It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks or says, we all have to do what we think is right for ourselves and family. Don’t let what someone says to you influence you negatively. It matters what you think. If you feel bad about yourself, if you don’t like the reflection in the mirror, if you are tired of being sick & unhealthy, if you are tired of popping pills, if you want to make changes for the better, you can do it. It is all about what you want and your priorities.
The average American spends $3008 a year on dining out (1). This keeps rising and it’s not just because of inflation (2). In 2016, the annual cost on healthcare in the USA for an individual was $10,345 (3), compared to most other countries; this is twice as much (4) and it’s not just about cost of insurance. By 2023, reports are showing this will exceed close to $15,000 a year per person in the USA. We can change some of this by our choices in how we live, what we eat, and how we treat our bodies. We can change this by our choices. We all have the choice in eating clean & right or dining out or eat ready made foods that aren’t going to be as healthy for you. Would you rather be eating convenient foods and get sick or start the road of healing with eating clean? Don’t you want to feel good & be healthy? Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to pop a pill to feel better? Or when you do need to take a pill, it could be an herbal or alternative supplement. It really is about how you want to spend your money. It is about choices.
We have the ability to heal ourselves, and we can do that by not eating the Standard American Diet; also know as SAD which is an appropriate acronym because it is a sad way to eat. It is not the way we need to eat. Our plates should be 75% filled with vegetables (low in carbohydrates, low glycemic) and meat (protein) should be used as a condiment. We have choices. We have the right to exercise and research the choices we have. And in all honesty, if you are ill, have cancer, have some kind of skin condition or some kind of internal condition, food needs to be your medicine, not a pill or something else that will only mask your pain. After all, even the father of medicine, Hippocrates said, “Let food be your medicine.” Believe me, I have had my share of health issues without having cancer and I can tell you from firsthand experience you can heal yourself with food.
I suggest checking Dr. Mark Hyman’s book Food: What the heck should I eat? out if you want to change the way you eat; if I could, I would tell everyone about this book. There is a guidebook by EWG (Environmental Working Group) titled “Good Food on a Tight Budget” which I recommend to those who are having to be really careful with money. This is a good way to go if you don’t want to go completely organic or just want to eat better food and be more healthy. I also recommend 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse by JJ Smith. After I did this cleanse, I lost 6 pounds & 1.5 inches from my waist. I believe it resets, reprograms, and re-balances your body where it helps you want to eat better and make healthier choices. It cleanses us of our cravings even if we are already eating healthy.
If you have cancer, I strongly recommend checking out Chris beat cancer as he had stage 3 colon cancer. He used nutrition and natural remedies and he is cancer free!
